Kelly, Ozzie, and Sunny (l to r) are all waiting for their special someone(s) to adopt them and make them a member of the family. They are all wonderful and loving dogs who would make a wonderful addition to any family. They have so much love to give to anyone who will give them a chance.

Are you willing to give them that chance? They will pay you back with warm kisses and lots of attention for the rest of their lives. (Click on their picture to find our more about them.)

Kelly is approx. 2 1/2 years old in these pictures taken March 17, 2007. Kelly is a little shy and is nervous around a lot of noise and activity. She is especially shy with men but we have found that if the man takes his hat off, she does much better. Rob, one of our volunteers, spent a lot of time with Kelly when she came in and she was shy but very loving with him.

Ozzie is approximately 9 months old in these pictures taken June 30, 2007. He is even more handsome than the pictures shows. Ozzie is a very loving and playful boy
Sunny is approx. 2 years old in this picture taken May 2007. She is very sweet and likes to play tug of war and go on walks. Sunny gets along with all of the dogs she has been with.

News

EMERGENCY -- Monetary donations needed for vet care

There have been several vet emergencies recently. Our funds are going fast. Lone Pine is a no-kill shelter and because of this, many of our animals have been with us since they were a few months old and are now seniors. Many are developing health issues. There are also several dogs and cats that have just come in that we have had to take to the vet right away. For instance Sophie, a 1 1/2 year old chocolate Shar Pei. She had a collar that had grown into her neck.

Everything we can do and afford to do is done to care for the animals at Lone Pine. However, with limited funds, we will be forced to have to euthanize animals because we do not want an animal to suffer if we can't give it the veterinary care it needs to get better.

Lone Pine does not have the volunteers or the sponsors to have fund raisers like the city and county shelters do. They have dog walks, car shows, etc. to raise funds. We are small and ran by primarily two (2) volunteers who work a full time job on top of spending hours and hours working at the shelter or for the shelter animals. There are other volunteers who help a few hours a week / month.

Volunteers NEEDED at Lone Pine

Do you love animals?

Would you have more animals if you could, but can't because you do not have the room or the place you live will not let you have any more?

Volunteering with the Lone Pine Ranch Animal Shelter is your answer. Become an Aunt or Uncle to the LP animals.

You could fulfill your need for more animals in your life and fulfill the needs of the approximately 80 dogs and 50 cats that are in the care of Lone Pine. Volunteers are the life blood of Lone Pine. There are NO paid employee at LP so we could not survive without our volunteers. Not even the director of Lone Pine gets paid and works a full time job besides taking care of the animals.

Volunteers do a variety of tasks at the shelter and at public events. There is something for every physical ability and time constraints. Giving 30 minutes of your time a day or a week, means so much. A lot can get done in that time. Not all of them involve getting dirty either.

We have been very blessed, in that we have not had to put any of our animals to sleep. This is due to the efforts of our volunteers; rescue groups who have helped us with transports and to find homes for some of our dogs; donations from the public (even the small ones help); and donations from businesses.

To everyone who helped, we want to say THANK YOU! We could not have saved as many lives and done what we have done without you. You not only changed the lives of animals, but the people these animals now live with.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO HELP TAKE CARE OF THE ANIMALS

"A drop of water isn't much, but many drops will fill a bucket full of water." Translation...The donation you give, added to the others we hope to receive, mean a lot of help for the animals in our care. YOU can make a difference!
Lone Pine, like most shelters, survives primarily on donations. This means that when our budget is tight, and most of the time it is, even the less expensive items, such as bleach, can add up and be a worry. The supplies and materials needed to keep the animals in a clean, comfortable, and safe environment, along with the veterinary expenses, utilities, and gas really add up each month. That is why we are asking for donations of the following items listed below (not listed in any particular order). With your support we can save animals' lives and give them a second chance at a new life.

Small - XL dog houses - Many of ours are beyond repair. There are still some very cold nights a head and we would love to have enough for each dog.
Canned dog and cat food. Please no Old Roy or Special Kitty brands. Needed to help the old dogs maintain weight and to give medications.
Metal tubs - These are filled with water and put in the dogs' kenenels in the summer so that they have something to get in to cool down. Our well can't handle swimming pool sizes but a small - medium metal wash tub would do the trick.
Money for veterinary bills.
We strive to do whatever is possible to give the veterinary care an animal may need. However, we are often forced, due to lack of funds, to try to treat the animal ourself before taking it to the vet or to put the animal to sleep. The veterinarians we work with are wonderful and do what they can to help us keep costs down. Just like human health care and prescriptions, veterinary health care and prescriptions have sky rocketed too.

Our hope is to someday be able to give every animal in our care a vet check up, complete with a hearworm test, FIV/LUK test, blood work, teeth cleaning, and the purchase of the a flea/tick/worm/ear mite and heartworm preventatives. We are currently barely able to afford to take a cat or dog to the vet for emergency care.

If you would like to help with the veterinary costs, you may call directly to the veterinarians that we use and put money on our account (Lone Pine Ranch Animal Shelter) with a credit card or you may mail it to the veterinary clinics. New Arrivals and Updates
We have named the dogs brought into the shelter to help us identify them. Click on the animals' name to see their picture(s) (if available).

Zeek Zeek (pictured left) is approximately 9 months old and is a Puggle. He is about 14 pounds. Zeek is a lover and gets along with other dogs and cats.

Tom is believed to be about 11 - 12 years old. He is a very warm and loving old man. Tom is one of the first cats to greet any visitor to the cat barn. He really has personality PLUS and we would love to get this very special guy into a home so that he can live out his remaining years in a real home.

Rosie is approximately 4 1/2 years old and is a Pit mix. She is as sweet as her name with people and some dogs. Rosie would be best suited for a home with no other dogs or a home with a male dog. She does well with people and is very loving. Rosie is smart and walks well on a leash.

Princess Princess (pictured right) is approx. 14 months old. She is sociable, lovable, and playful. Just a special cat.

Cotton - is approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years old and is an American Eskimo. A little shy at first, he soon warms up to you. He just needs someone who can show him that us humans are OK.

Mercedes is now approximately 6-7 years old and is a female Shar Pei mix. She has been at the shelter since early 2003. A very very loving and gentle girl. She has blossomed since we moved her out front of the shelter. Mercedes loves to go for walks and is good on a leash. Just a SUPER DUPER dog.

Oli Oli (pictured left) is approximately 6 years old and is a Great Pyrenees. Oli walks well on a leash and rides great in the car. He is very well behaved with most of the dogs he has come in contact with.

Wendy is approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years old and is a Basset and Pointer mix. She is very playful, loving, and funny. Wendy loves to rollover on her back and let you rub her stomach. She enjoys sitting on your lap too. your lap.

Haley is approximately 1 1/2 - 2 years old and is a Basset. She is very loving. She enjoys following you around and sitting on your lap. She is doing pretty well on the leash too.

Sadiey Sadie (pictured right) is approximately 2 years old and is a Shepherd mix. A little shy at first but she soon warms up to you and is a real love bug.

Sunny is approx. 2 years old and is a female Redbone Coonhound and Treeing Walker Hound mix. She happy, playful, and loving. Sunny loves to play with people and with the other dogs.

Yancy is approx. 1 - 1 1/2 years old and is a pointer. He is deaf but that doesn't seem to bother him. Yancy loves people and gets along great with other dogs.
Socks Socks (pictured left)is approx. 8 months old. She is a female black with white Shepherd / heeler mix. Socks loves to play with other dogs but is a bit shy with humans. Socks needs work on a leash but seems to be very smart as she is catching on quickly to what she needs to do.

Rin Tin is approx. 5 1/2 years old and is a female Rat Terrier mix. She would love to be a lap or chest baby.

Katie is approx. 6 months old and is a black lab mix. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. Katie loves to cuddle and play.

Sunday was approximately 6-8 months old when she came into the shelter in July 2007 and is a Spaniel mix. Shy at first but very loving when she knows she can trust you. A beautiful little girl.

Donnie Donnie (pictured right) is approximately approximately 6 months old in this picture. He is very friendly, playful, and loves people. We would love to adopt him and his sister, Marie, to a home together.

Lance is approx. 11 months old and is a male husky. He is very loving and so wants to be with you. Well behaved too.

Patti is approx. 10 months old and is a female black lab mix. She loves to splash in the pools, wrestle with the other dogs, and roll around in the grass.

Shiloh Shiloh (pictured left) is approx. 2 years old and is a beagle. He is a very sweet, loving, and smart. Just a super dog.

Kelly is approx. 2 1/2 years old and is a shephered and yellow lab mix. She is a little shy at first but soon warms up to you. Kelly is very loving.

Ashley Violet is a female gray cat. She is approximately 1 year old. Violet is very friendly and quiet. A beautiful, exotic looking little girl.

Ace (pictured right) is a 5 year old Shar Pei. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle. Ashley is housebroken.

Lost Animals
Click on the animals' name to see their picture(s) (if available).

If you do not see the animal that you lost or found, please report your missing pet to the following websites: petfinder.com, dogdective.com, pets911.com, and 1-800-save-a-pet.com. Many rescue groups and shelters get alerts from these sites as well as vets and private individuals. Next, put up flyers every place that will let you. Put an advertisement in the paper, call local vets (not just the one down the street either) and groomers, ALL animal shelters, AND this is a must GO TO THE SHELTERS EVERY EVERY DAY. All black cats look alike. What looks like a lab to you, may not look like one to the person who has the dog.

Help your best friend get back home.
Always keep identification on your pet in case they get lost. Shelters see a lot of animals that have obviously had a home, but have no identification. Microchipping is also a great way to help your friend get back home as most shelters do scan any animal that comes in. Less than 10% of dogs and 2% of cats that come to shelters are picked up by their owners! If your pet is lost, remember to check the shelter EVERY DAY!

About Lone Pine
Lone Pine Ranch has been a non-profit 501(c)3 shelter since May of 2003. The shelter is in Centerton, Arkansas, which is just 4 miles West of Bentonville (home of Wal-Mart's General Offices) and about 45 minutes North of Fayetteville (home of the University of Arkansas). Click for directions with a map.

The shelter currently has approximately 80 dogs and 45 cats. As mentioned in an above section, we operate primarily from donations. We also are in great need of volunteers and foster homes. Our volunteer base currently consists of 4 -5 people and we only have one foster home to place animals that may just need a little socialization (TLC) before being adopted out.

Adoption Requirements
Everyone who volunteers at the shelter works full time and it takes us 3 - 5 business days (Monday - Friday days) to process applications. The volunteers have to fit the calls in during their lunch break and breaks (and sometimes we cannot take breaks during one of those days). Not all of the time do we get the personal reference or the veterinarian the first time. They may be busy and ask us to call back.

Please be patient and understand that we all do this as a labor of love and do not get paid, including the director, for doing what we do.

Priority will be given to local adoption applications. Rarely do we adopt out to anyone in another state unless it is just over the state line like Missouri or Oklahoma is from us (about 50 - 75 miles). We do make exceptions for the medium to x-large dogs, however, there are a few that are restricted to in state only. With the small, prissy dogs, because we receive so many applications, we will not be adopting out of state.

Adoption Fees :
Dogs - $60.00; $75.00, if 25 pounds or under; and $100.00, regardless of size, if the animal is a pure breed.
Cats - $50.00
NOTE: There are times that Adoption Fees are more than what is shown here because of special circumstances such as we had to pay to rescue the animal to save it or it needed a lot of veterinary care. The Adoption Fee will be shown in the animal's bio.

NOTE:Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Several applications may be taken and processed before an animal gets adopted. This is especially true on the small dogs. Our goal is to find the best home for the animals in our care. Thank you for your understanding. We would be happy to mail, fax or e-mail our application to interested parties.

Hours of Operation:

Lone Pine is only open on Saturdays because all of the volunteers work full time. The shelter doesn't have full time staff people. The schedule below shows when we will be open based on volunteer availability. PLEASE check the schedule before you come out. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

NOTE: Please check this site for updated opening and closing information before you come see us. We do close or open late if the weather has made the shelter too muddy and dangerous for visitors, animals and volunteers. The shelter also closes if it is raining or snowing. Lone Pine is on a farm and the animals are in kennels in a yard. We would hate to have any two or four legged creatures get hurt or any cars get stuck in our yard. Thank you for your understanding.

Kitty Palace Hours
The Kitty Palace will be open when we have a volunteer familiar with the KP and / or by appointment. A completed and processed application must be done before a cat(s) can be taken home. E-mail for an application. Please do check this site just in case something comes up and we have to close that day. DOGS WILL NOT BE SHOWN.
